A jig is a device, which holds and supports the work and also guides the path of the s5 h4 z4 [- O( w
cutting tool, as the operation is performed. Jigs are used extensively for operations such as
$ e U" T1 o6 Z0 p0 w5 Pdrilling, reaming, tapping and counter-boring. The jig need not be secured to the machine.. D: b: P% r0 P2 G# q% y
o, h; y3 b& sA fixture is a device which locates and holds the work securely in a definite position. It
7 S1 C" U) z$ F9 N8 Q$ [is usually secured to the table of the machine and it does not guide the cutting tool. The cutting
" R! n; T; O& D L6 g9 Ttool is either moved into position for the operation or the table is moved under the cutting tool.: K5 B; }7 A6 z- }4 P
Fixtures are used while performing milling, turning, honing, broaching, grinding and welding: Q& i+ i% r) s; L; K
operations.
